Want to improve your memory? Try these unexpected tips. The brain is an extraordinary organ, with many wonderful qualities, including the ability to forget — which may actually be a good thing. “If we remembered everything that we experienced, our brains would be hoarders, clogged with all sorts of useless crap that gets in the way of what we really need,” says Charan Ranganath, a professor of psychology and the director of the Dynamic Memory Lab at the University of California Davis.
In today’s constantly plugged-in, always-on world, people are faced with a barrage of information — emails, news, pointless meetings, traffic updates, chitchat from family members — far more than anyone can process, Ranganath explains. “Instead, evolution favored quality over quantity,” he says. “We get good quality memories for the stuff that we are paying attention to, and that is often the important stuff. But if we’re not paying attention to something, we will never really get a good memory of it to begin with.”

WorkNurses to strike again as ministers prepare to introduce âspitefulâ billRayner added: "Ministers are desperately seeking to justify this legislation by using disingenuous comparisons with France and Spain. This just won't wash, as both lose significantly more days to strikes than the UK."

The potential for machine learning algorithms to accelerate drug formulation could reduce the time and cost associated with drug development, making promising new medicines available faster. WorkWorkWorkWorkWorkWorkWorkWorkWorkWorkWorkWorkWorkThe Orange Peel: An Outstanding Source of Chemical ResourcesCitrus sinensis (L.) Osbeck is a very common cultivar belonging to the Rutaceae family. It is largely diffused in several areas of the world characterized by mild to warm climate conditions. Its abundant worldwide production (up to 107 Tons. per year) and consumption both as the edible part of the fruit and as several types of derivative products imply the production of a huge amount of waste, such as the fruit pomace. Several ways of recycling this material have been developed in recent years: employment as fertilizer, fodder ingredient, and even cloth material. However, the chemical added value of Citrus sinensis peel has been underestimated despite the diversified and significant content of useful chemicals, such as polyphenols, polymethoxylated phenols, glycosylated flavonoids, volatile and non-volatile terpenoids, pectins, enzymes, etc. This work aims to highlight the outstanding chemical potential of Citrus sinensis peel. We didn\'t do that enough. We didn\'t score in the red zone enough. Only put up three points in the second half. So as an offense, that\'s on us.\" WorkBills begin NFL playoff march with sloppy win over short-handed DolphinsPromising/troubling trend: The Dolphins\' defense over the past few seasons has been predicated on creating turnovers, but they ranked second-to-last in the NFL this season in takeaways. Sunday\'s performance was a return to that philosophy. Defensive coordinator Josh Boyer was unafraid to send constant pressure at Allen, forcing three turnovers that all led to points for Miami. On a day when their offense couldn\'t get much going, the Dolphins played outstanding complementary football. -- Marcel Louis-Jacques WorkDaniel Jones leads underdog Giants past Vikings for first playoff win since 2011Quarterback Daniel Jones, pressured on 36% of his dropbacks during the regular season, faced little pressure from the Vikings\' pass rush for most of the game. As a result, the Giants had five drives of at least 75 yards, tied for the most in any playoff game since 2000. And it was the 10th game this season that the Vikings have given up at least 400 yards to an opponent. -- Kevin Seifert |
