Fact or Fiction?: Feed a Cold, Starve a Fever Maxims typically date back many years, but “feed a cold, starve a fever” may beat them all. This saying has been traced to a 1574 dictionary by John Withals, which noted that “fasting is a great remedy of fever.” The belief is that eating food may help the body generate warmth during a “cold” and that avoiding food may help it cool down when overheated.
But recent medical science says the old saw is wrong. It should be “feed a cold, feed a fever.”

Like most weddings, after the celebration, the hard part of the relationship begins. This bill protects us at the federal level and for federal benefits, but if Thomas and the court's far-right majority do "reconsider" the cases that establish rights to privacy, contraception and same-sex marriage, individual states (some of which have leaders who have expressed a clear interest in doing so) could be able to discriminate in how they define marriage, forcing residents who want to recognize their same-sex relationship through marriage to turn to states that don't discriminate. Just like women now have to do for their reproductive choices because of Dobbs. Only once we have firmly guaranteed that every American has the right to marry whom they choose - regardless of sexual orientation - can we fully celebrate. Until then, we must continue to fight. WorkWorkOpinion: How close are we to using nuclear fusion as an energy source? | CNN Given the pressing need to find future clean energy sources, I believe that it is imperative that fusion research be given stable and ample support. Since the mid-1990s, the US government has provided an annual budget of about half a billion dollars per year, adjusted to today's dollars. While that sounds like a lot of money, it's tiny compared to the direct government subsidies for the fossil fuel industry, which amounts to $20.5 billion per year, with some estimate for indirect subsidies being much higher. If the fusion scientific community had been funded at such levels, fusion power plants could well have been a reality today. But in the years since, each of them has borne that weight with strength and with grace. And they've drawn purpose from tragedy - doing everything in their power to make sure other children and families never have to experience what they and their loved ones did.The journey hasn't always been easy - and in a year when there hasn't been a single week without a mass shooting somewhere in America, it's clear our work is far from over. But of late, I've sensed that slowly, steadily, the tide is turning; that real change is possible. And I feel that way in no small part because of the families of Sandy Hook Elementary.Ten years ago, we all would have understood if those families had simply asked for privacy and closed themselves off from the world. But instead, they took unimaginable sorrow and channeled it into a righteous cause - setting an example of strength and resolve. They've made us proud.
